The Llangollen Railway is beautifully situated beside the River Dee in North Wales. Its trains run for almost 8 miles from Llangollen to Carrog. Offering both steam and diesel it operates a service throughout the year. There are trains scheduled most days during the summer and in the winter months most weekends. The Christmas and New Year period sees Santa and Mince Pie specials.

The line has the following stations:
- Llangollen - located on the north bank of the river Dee
The intention is that the railway will be extended another two and half miles west of Carrog to Corwen where a new station will be built.
The Shropshire Star 29 December 2008 reports that
The Llangollen season of Santa Trains called for the running of 55 steam trains over 11 operating days. They required the efforts of 66 volunteers to help Santa staff the trains and stations, in addition to the normal train operating crews.
