Polish Remembrance Events - September 2012

Three annual events to commemorate the sacrifice of Polish Armed Forces will take place in September 2012.

Polish Armed Forces Memorial Commemoration

Date: Saturday, 1st September, 2012 at 2pm
Location: National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire.

Annual ceremony, held by the Polish Ex-Combatants Association (GB), which this year marks the 3rd anniversary of the unveiling of the Polish Armed Forces Memorial.

Polish Air Force Memorial Ceremony

Date: Saturday, 8th September, 2012 at 12 noon
Location: Polish Air Force Memorial, Northolt, London. Situated at the junction of the A40 and the West End Road, Ruislip.

The annual commemoration of the fallen Polish Airmen in World War 2. Scheduled to attend the event are Officer Cadets from the Polish Air Force Academy and the band of the Middlesex Wing of the Air Training Corps.

Wreaths will be laid at the memorial by representatives of:

  • Polish Government
  • British Government
  • Local Authorities
  • Polish Air Force
  • Royal Air Force
  • Veterans

Warsaw Air Bridge Memorial Ceremony

Date: Sunday, 23rd September, 2012 at 2pm
Location: Polish War Graves, Newark Cemetery, London Road, Nottinghamshire.

A parade will march from the main cemetery gates to the Warsaw Air Bridge Memorial. A memorial service will take place and wreaths will be laid. The event commemorates the 250 airmen of Britain, the Commonwealth and Poland who gave their lives to fly supplies to Warsaw during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.
