A stone in front of the memorial cross records that this is the site of the grave of General Wladyslaw Sikorski, Commander in Chief of Polish Forces. He was killed in July 1943 and buried at Newark. In September 1993 his body was removed from Newark and laid to rest in Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland.
